What happens if you don't have an eTA for Canada?
If you are planning to travel to Canada, you must have a visit visa or a Canada ETA (also known as electronic visa). If you do not have one of the two permit documents mentioned before, you can not enter Canada for any reason. Since 2012, the Canadian government has published the ETA application portal for travelers for 62 countries to apply for an ETA. Nationalities who are eligible for an ETA can use the platform to obtain an ETA within a couple of days.
If you do not have a valid Canada ETA, you will be banned at the border crossing at the airport. Otherwise, if travelers enter Canada illegally, you will be fined a large amount of money or even in the blacklist which includes people who are not allowed to enter Canada. Therefore, with just a few minutes, travelers can apply for an ETA to enter Canada legally.
Recently, the Canadian government has approved citizens use ETA for tourism, business, etc. purposes. Moreover, the e-visa approval will be linked to your passport; therefore all you need to do is show the ETA documents and a passport for Officer to check and stamp. Besides, having an ETA can reduce the time of waiting to get a visa on arrival.
