What Is the Canada eTA for New Zealanders?

The Canada eTA is a multiple-entry electronic travel permission for New Zealanders.

Canadian immigration implemented the eTA in 2015 to make it simpler to control international tourists before they enter the country.

The method has helped border authorities to effectively assess visitors and reduce the number of repeat visitors who require papers.

Holders of an authorized eTA may enter Canada many times throughout the ETA's five-year validity period. For each journey, they can be given a stay of up to 6 months.

Border authorities will determine how long the travel permit will be valid upon arrival in Canada and mark the date in the traveler's passport. The Canada eTA for New Zealand citizens is designed for tourists visiting Canada for the following purposes:

Tourism, especially short tourist stays
Business trips
Transiting through Canada to their onward destination
Medical treatment or consultation

A transit visa is required for any foreign national entering or leaving Canada through a Canadian airport. This law, however, does not apply to New Zealand natives who hold a Canadian eTA.

Because the Canadian eTA system is entirely electronic, all passengers must have a machine-readable passport. All passports issued in New Zealand are machine-readable, although applicants should verify with the issuing passport office if they have any doubts about the validity of their documents.
