Why can Chileans travel to Canada without a visa?
Chilean citizens can travel to Canada without a visa for tourism or business purposes for up to 90 days thanks to the Canada-Chile visa waiver agreement. The agreement was reached in 2014 and went into force the following year.
The agreement was inked in appreciation of Canada and Chile's strong economic and political connections. Chile maintains a stable democracy and is a member of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). The pact aims to enhance tourism and trade between the two countries as well.
However, you need to apply for a Canada ETA. To travel to Canada without a visa, Chilean citizens must meet the following requirements:
-
They must have a valid passport that is valid for at least 6 months after the day they wish to leave Canada.
-
They must be in possession of a valid return or onward ticket.
-
They must have enough money to maintain themselves while in Canada.
-
They must be free of all criminal convictions.
