Do I Get a Refund If My Visa Is Refused Canada?

If your Canada eTA application is refused, you may be eligible for a partial refund of the service fee, depending on the circumstances of the refusal and the applicable refund policy. The government fee and service fee are treated separately.

• Government fee: This fee is paid to the Canadian government for processing the eTA application. It is non-refundable if the application is refused.

• Service fee: This fee covers application processing and customer support provided by Canada Immigration Services. If the government denies your visa or eTA application, a partial refund may be offered in accordance with our Refund Policy.

A refund is not automatic in every case. Once you have provided all required documents and personal data processing has started, the service is considered to have been initiated. Services that have already been partially processed are generally non-refundable, while specific circumstances, such as a government-denied application, may qualify for a partial refund.

When Can I Request a Refund?

A refund may be available in the following situations:

• You have paid for the service, but supporting documents have not yet been submitted and processing has not started.
• We cancel or withdraw the service.
• You are charged more than once for the same service.
• The government denies your visa or eTA application, in which case a partial refund may be offered depending on the circumstances and our refund policy.
• We fail to deliver the visa service within the displayed processing time, in which case a partial refund may be considered.

Refunds generally cannot be requested for services that have already been partially processed, incomplete applications, or incorrect information provided by the applicant.

How Do I Request a Refund?

To request a refund, submit the Contact Us form on our website and select “Refund & Cancellation.” The request must be sent from the email address used to register your visa application.

Include:

• Your order number

• The reason for your refund request

• Any supporting documents

Eligible refund requests are normally processed within 5–7 business days. This is the internal processing period; the time for the refund to appear in your account may vary depending on your bank or payment provider.

How Will I Receive My Refund?

Approved refunds are sent to the original payment method used for the application. For credit or debit card payments, the time required for the refund to appear in your account depends on your bank, but the policy states that it will not exceed 30 calendar days.

Important: Visa Approval Is Decided by the Government

Canada Immigration Services does not decide whether an eTA or visa is approved. Visa and eTA decisions are made by the relevant government authorities.

A refund is therefore not guaranteed simply because an application is refused. If a government authority denies the application, any applicable partial refund is determined according to the circumstances and our Refund Policy.
