Can I leave and come back to Canada with an eTA?
Possibly, yes. If you have an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) and you leave Canada before the expiration date of your authorized stay, you may be able to re-enter Canada with the same eTA as long as it remains valid.
However, it's important to note that the Canada eTA is not a guarantee of entry into Canada. When you arrive at the border, a border services officer will determine whether you meet the entry requirements and are admissible to Canada. If you have a new passport, you have to change to a new eTA.
We advise you to apply for a Canada eTA as soon as you can in order to have it in time for your trip if you intend to visit Canada. You just need to meet the following requirements to apply for an eTA:
- A photocopy of the passport's biographical page.
- Your passport is valid for at least six months from the date of arrival in Canada and contains a minimum of two blank pages for stamping by the Immigration Officer.
- Provide your email address to submit supporting documents and receive a Canada eTA
- Payment can be made by debit or credit card.
