Can you go to Canada without a passport?
No. You can’t go to Canada without a passport. To fly to Canada, you must have either a passport or a NEXUS card, which is accepted at nine Canadian airports. To travel by land or sea, you must provide a passport, passport card, or NEXUS card.
If you are traveling to Canada as a tourist, you will need an ETA. A Canada Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) is required for visa-exempt foreign nationals who travel to Canada by air. An eTA is connected electronically to a traveler's passport. It is valid for up to five years, or until your passport expires, whichever comes first. If you receive a new passport, you'll need a new eTA.
This ETA lets you stay in Canada for up to 6 months, whether traveling for tourism, business, short-term studies, medical reasons, or visiting family and friends.
Applying for a Canada eTA is a straightforward online process that takes only a few minutes to finish. Most candidates receive eTA clearance (by email) within minutes. Some requests, however, may take several days to process if you are required to submit supporting documentation. It is essential to obtain an eTA before booking a ticket to Canada.
