Do Norwegian citizens need a visa to Canada?
No. Norwegian nationals who travel to Canada for short-term stays do not have to get a Canadian visa. If you want to travel there via air, you must apply for a Canada ETA. Fortunately, you may do it online, and if you use Canada Immigration Services, you will have your electronic permission within 30 minutes.
Canada ETA for Norwegian nationals is an electronic travel authorization that permits you to enter Canada for purposes such as tourism, medical, business or transit. It is valid for five years after issue, or until the passport expires. You will have multiple entries and you can stay 180 days per entry.
Norwegian residents who want to receive a Canada Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) should apply at least 72 hours (or three days) before their planned trip to Canada. While most eTAs are handled within 24 hours, providing for more processing time can assist in reducing potential delays.
It is crucial to know that once obtained, Canada eTAs are valid for five years (unless your passport expires before). This enables advanced planning and application, even if travel specifics have not yet been verified. In exceptional cases, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) may require additional documentation.
Additional documents could include:
- A Medical Examination: A medical examination may be necessary for some people.
- Criminal record check: A criminal background check is required if the candidate has a prior conviction. The Canadian Visa office will decide if a police certificate is required depending on the specific circumstances
