Is 3 days in Montreal enough?
Yes. For the great majority of people considering a trip to Montreal, three days is plenty of time to get a flavor. Whether you plan your vacation like I did, pedaling between the city's many neighborhoods (and indulging in delicacies inside), or take a more typical trip (exploring city-center sites for two days, then taking a day excursion on the third), this is an excellent foundation for any trip.
Montreal is older than Canada itself, and it is full of diverse neighborhoods, delicious food, and famous landmarks. With this Montreal schedule, 3 days is all you need to see the city.
Day 1
On your first day, you can explore the main sights. Start in the morning in the Old Town and learn more about the city's history at Notre Dame Cathedral, the Town Hall and Bonsecours Market. A guided walking or scooter tour will help you make the most of your time.
After a lunch break, head to the huge Mount Royal Park for sunset views. Round off the day with a night out in the Rue Crescent neighborhood.
Day 2
Start the day in the bohemian Plateau district and soak up the city's vibrant cultural scene. In the morning, take a walking tour to admire the colourful murals and beautiful houses while browsing bookstores, boutiques and cafés.
Once you've worked up an appetite, head to the multicultural Mile End neighborhood to sample Montreal's specialties, such as cheese fries with gravy and bagels. Or, you can try your hand at making your own bagel with the locals.
Day 3
If you're visiting Montreal during the winter months, you might spend some time getting from one location to another using the RESOs, a network of underground tunnels that make it easier to beat the cold. But no matter when you visit, it's worth taking a tour of the city's underground, which stretches for over 20 miles (32 kilometres).
End your Montreal tour on the other side of the city - the other vertical side. Helicopter tours offer unique views and are perfect for photography enthusiasts. For those who prefer to stay on land, check-out the many small breweries and bars in the Latin Quarter.
