What can I not bring to Canada?
Even though cannabis products are legal in both Washington state and Canada, they cannot be transported across the border. Here's everything you can't bring into Canada (and vice versa).
- Food: Fresh fruits and vegetables and animal and fish products.
- Live bait: Do not bring minnows, leeches, smelts, or leeches on your fishing outings. Nightcrawlers are allowed, but they must be housed with artificial tissue bedding (no soil).
- Weapons: Guns and guns, ammunition, pyrotechnics, mace, and pepper spray are prohibited. If you're bringing a firearm into Canada for an official hunting or sports event, you must declare it to customs at the border. You will have to fill out a non-resident gun declaration form and meet with a border officer.
- Cannabis: Even if you have a medicinal cannabis prescription (from the United States, Canada, or another nation), you cannot import marijuana into Canada. Even though marijuana is legal in Washington state (over the border from Vancouver) and throughout Canada (as of October 17, 2018), you cannot transport cannabis from Washington into Canada. Even CBD oil and other cannabis products are prohibited.
- Illegal drugs: It might go without saying, but you absolutely may not bring any illegal drugs across the border into Canada.
