What happens if I don't have an eTA for Canada?
If you do not have one, you won’t be able to board your flight. You need to apply for a Canada eTA before traveling to Canada.
An Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) is required for visa-exempt foreign nationals who travel to Canada by air. A Canada eTA is connected electronically to a traveler's passport. It is valid for up to five years, or until your passport expires, whichever comes first. If you receive a new passport, you'll need a new eTA. With a valid eTA, you can visit Canada as frequently as you wish for short visits (often up to six months).
Once your eTA has been authorized, ensure that the passport number in your eTA approval email corresponds to the number in your passport. If they do not match, you will need to apply for a new eTA.
Applying for a Canada ETA online is a straightforward online process that takes only a few minutes to finish. Most candidates receive eTA clearance (by email) within minutes. Some requests, however, may take several days to process if you are required to submit supporting documentation. It is essential to obtain an eTA before booking a ticket to Canada.
