What is the minimum passport validity for travel to Canada?
To enter Canada, your passport must be valid for the duration of your intended stay. If you are passing via another nation on your way to or from Canada, check the entrance procedures for that country. Many nations will only allow you to enter if your passport has at least 6 months of validity left.
To enter or transit Canada, most people require either a visa or a Canada Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA), but not both. Short-term stays (up to 6 months) do not require a visa. You might require an eTA instead.
You do not require an eTA if you are:
- Arriving by land and sea—you must have acceptable travel documents and ID.
- A British-Canadian dual national, you must have a valid Canadian passport.
