What language is spoken in Vancouver?

Federal government agencies offer services in both English and French. However, the majority of the population speaks English as their first or second language.

The city of Vancouver is quite cosmopolitan, with a diverse population. Because of its multiculturalism, the city is unofficially bilingual. Its residents speak a variety of languages, and many adhere to traditional practices from their home countries, which are occasionally blended with Canadian culture.

After English and Chinese, the most often spoken mother tongue languages are Punjabi, German, Italian, French, Tagalog (Filipino), and Spanish. More than half of Vancouver's school-aged youngsters were reared in a language other than English.
